Discover how Oticon technology changes people's lives
Found on care
In 1904, Hans Demant helped his wife Camilla with one of the world’s first electronic hearing aids – launching a legacy of life-changing technology that endures to this day. More than 120 years later, Oticon’s position as a world leader in audiology is a testament to our continuous pursuit to push the limits of hearing care technology to change the lives of people with hearing loss.
Hearing health is brain health
Hearing loss makes your brain work harder
Even mild hearing loss can have serious consequences for people’s brains and lives. Hearing loss increases the effort of listening. Making sense of what is heard becomes harder, increasing listening stress and mental load. This leads to fatigue and a tendency to give up when listening becomes challenging, especially in noisy environments. This may drive people to avoid social gatherings and miss out on the moments that truly matter, because they are unable to participate. This ultimately may increase the risk of loneliness, social isolation, and depression for people with untreated hearing loss.
Brainhearing Technology™
You hear with your ears, but you listen with your brain
We focus on what the brain needs to make sense of sound and continuously explore new ways to help it create more meaning with less effort. This unique philosophy is called BrainHearing™. It guides everything we do to make our life-changing technology a reality. This guiding principle has led us to the groundbreaking discovery that the brain needs access to all sounds – not just speech – in order to work in a natural way. This has taken us on a different path, and we continuously make scientific discoveries that are increasing our knowledge of the brain’s role in hearing health and fuelling the development life-changing BrainHearing™ technology.
Discovering tomorrow’s hearing solutions
Oticon stands apart as the only hearing aid manufacturer with its own independent research facility dedicated to audiology – Eriksholm Research Centre - which explores scientific areas with the potential to improve the lives of people with hearing loss.
